I’m a Texas native, from San Antonio! I found music when I was about 11 years old, and I was completely obsessed with Bob Dylan and Bob Marley! For beginning students who have no experience on their instrument, I usually spend a fair chunk of time working on basic technique using books like the Essential Elements series or Greg Horne's similar books for folk instruments. I usually combine the book material with other songs/pieces relevant to each student's interests. I'll begin by asking about your goals and aspirations to design the curriculum around your playing level. As a beginner student, we may start with left right hand coordination and instrument positioning, we'll work on motor skills and get started on developing fun practice habits. As we progress, we'll begin to apply concepts in a musical context by learning progressions to popular songs and analyzing why they work. We'll jam, play off of one another and begin to sing what we play. Read More
