While I am new to teaching, I am hoping to create a comfortable environment where students do not feel rushed to complete pieces or practices, and we will always move at the students pace. If a student is not yet ready to move on to the next piece, then we will continue polishing whatever they need before moving on. For beginning students typically start with Drum Set For Kids by Hal Leonard. In this book after playing lessons each one has a song to play along to with a recording. This makes learning this book fun for studemts. I also like to focus on hand technique and all of the basics for playing Drums. I love this series for young students because it combines rote with note-learning. In this method, the student immediately is playing all over the keyboard and has fun learning. I have come up my own way to approach teaching music theory to students because traditional way of music theory teaching in school is too vague for most beginner students.
