I began teaching students while still in high school. I continued teaching students in college with the University of Texas String Project. Upon graduation, I taught programs in both public and private schools, while developing a studio of private students at our home. I have taught private students for most of the past 35 years, teaching all ages from 6 yrs. and up, beginning to advanced. I encourage regular practice for steady improvement and also instruct my students in how to practice in order to make the best progress. Read More

I get a thrill when I can see one of my student's develop a passion for music. It is fulfilling to see them understand the fundamentals of jazz and to know where the music comes from. I like to give a brief history of the style and song to develop an emotional connection with the music being played. This allows the student to put feeling into the song rather than playing notes on a page. Read More

I was born to play drums... no kidding, as a third generation drummer in my family, I began beating on my dad's kit from the moment that I could hold a pair of sticks. My experiences in high school and college drumlines, as well as Drum Corps International provided a tremendous base of knowledge, discipline, and dedication to many years of playing live shows all over the country with hundreds of talented musicians. 37 years and 1000's of performances later, I'm excited to perform and to share what Iknow with anyone and everyone. I believe the early years of a music beginner are the most influential time to develop healthy technique habits and a love for music. For that reason, I provide a positive experience by being attentive to the student's needs and aspirations and adapt my teaching accordingly. For more advanced students, I interview them to plan a syllabus for their desired results and schedule their classes accordingly. Should any student want to pursue higher education in music, I can help with auditions, university requirements, etc. Read More

While I am new to teaching, I am hoping to create a comfortable environment where students do not feel rushed to complete pieces or practices, and we will always move at the students pace. If a student is not yet ready to move on to the next piece, then we will continue polishing whatever they need before moving on. I will always keep a log of what the student is currently working on, and what they should work on between lessons so we can always make sure things get done, and can move on to new things. Read More

I'll begin by asking about your goals and aspirations to design the curriculum around your playing level. As a beginner student, we may start with left right hand coordination and instrument positioning, we'll work on motor skills and get started on developing fun practice habits. As we progress, we'll begin to apply concepts in a musical context by learning progressions to popular songs and analyzing why they work. We'll jam, play off of one another and begin to sing what we play. Read More
