Soon I was asked to teach the other dancers to sing as well, and those were my first singing students. I’ve been teaching singing ever since. Even though Musical Theater is my first love, many of my students study a wide variety of music styles and bring personal storytelling skills to all music. My practice is an evidenced-based one. I chose exercises that are specifically tailored to a certain vocal idea or skill that we are working on. From there, we modify the exercise to meet the needs of the student's unique body and other student specific needs (i.e. previous habits, personality type, etc.). I generally use this approach across the board only modifying the level at which I am challenging the student to meet their current ability. Read More

My favorite teaching experience is when I took on a nine-year-old piano student who had never written a song, and wouldn’t practice to save his life. I found that getting him to write a piece of music that was entirely his own helped him to practice his technique in a way that was fun and creatively satisfying. His first composition went on to win a county-wide award for best original song. Read More
