My teaching experience began in my post undergraduate college days. After graduation, I began studying at a studio called Jazz Improv with a Master's level instructor. One of his students asked for a saxophone teacher and the party was referred to me. I was then able to obtain a second saxophone student; I have also had two piano students when teaching. I completed my Bachelors of Music at Mannes College in 2012. I have also completed my Masters of Music at Rice University under the instruction of acclaimed voice teacher, Dr. Stephen King. In April of 2014, I performed the role of Lady Billows in their 2014 production of Brittens Albert Herring. Over the summer, I also performed extensively with Aspen Music Festival, singing Pamina, Despina and La Contessa in Opera Scenes Master Classes and understudying Sybil Vane in The Picture of Dorian Grey. Every voice is unique and specific achievable long term and short term goals need to be set accordingly. I don't believe in forcing one style of music onto my students. I have worked with special needs kids and adults since I graduated, then after a brief period of break due to having my own children, I am back to teaching piano lessons. I have worked in schools and hospitals since my internship before graduating and now teaching in my home studio. I love to work with kids and I believe the younger they are, the better they should experience music early and more formal lessons can be provided as long as they are able to sit, understand how to read and keep rhythm. Students need to enjoy and connect with the music they are singing, and I work with my students to find music they enjoy that also meets their developmental goals. I also encourage my students to perform in recitals and competitions, if sharing their voice is part of their personal and/or professional goals. Finally, knowing how busy people are these days, I work with my students to find creative ways of fitting in their practice and I teach them HOW to practice, since consistent, quality practice is critical to achieving their goals. I studied composition at Haverford College, where I led a number of vocal ensembles and music directed several musical theater productions. While at Haverford, I toured colleges on the East Coast with my male-voiced a cappella group, and I also toured both Mexico and Germany with the Chamber singers of Haverford and Bryn Mawr Colleges.
