Instruments: Voice

At the beginng of the first lesson I like to ask my student about their musical experience, interest and if they have any over arching goals, and after that I warm them up and teach them part of a simple song either from a popular musical or (for my younger students) Disney song in order to hear the maturity, tonality, and range they are starting with. If my students do not have a particular song or songs picked out then I assign songs, trying to adhere to the student's interest, during the second lesson. Read More

My lesson styles are geared towards the end goals of the students. As not all students will have the desire to become professional musicians, the ultimate goal is to build lifelong lovers of the arts...and if the student decides that music is a career, then the lessons are geared accordingly. For younger children, the ultimate goal is that their love of the music and instrument will spark their desire for practice and further learning, but that they ENJOY music as an art and experience first. My teaching style feels relaxed but I work hard to keep students in their least restrictive environment. We dont want the student to be too challenged or bored. For this reason I am flexible with the content we work on and the order in which we complete different parts of the lesson. I give a lot of choice to students, maybe one day they want to start with working on some improvisation and want to work on their assigned pieces the 2nd half of the lesson. Read More

As I firmly believe in the power of music and singing, I like to create levels of success for the student that are individual and specific to that student. I know that each student progresses differently so after a lesson or two, we will create goals specific to that student. I enjoy getting feedback from the student as well as allowing them to share their goals and aspirations for their voice. Read More

I have been teaching private lessons for 15 years and have loved every minute of it! I began just teaching piano instruction when I first started out, but as I went through college, I added voice to my instructional practices. I really encourage my students to take my 20 minute challenge: 20 minutes a day for 5 days. That equals 100 minutes a practice a week and will cause you as the student to see AMAZING results in your skill and proficiency. Read More

I have a passion for music. I started on the piano when I was seven years old and I've never looked back. After spending years in grade school, junior high and high school learning and performing in the band program on trumpet and euphonium, I moved on to play euphonium in The Most Exciting Band in the Land, the Ohio University Marching 110! In the Marching 110 I played in front of thousands of people at Ohio University's Peden Stadium and at professional football games in Cincinnati and Buffalo. Read More
