I have a more laid back teaching style that is adapted to the student's personality and learning style. The last thing that any student wants is a stressful environment. Musical lessons should be challenging and have an element of fun as well. The student should leave the lesson wanting to come back to another lesson not feeling like they should put their instrument down and give up. At the beginng of the first lesson I like to ask my student about their musical experience, interest and if they have any over arching goals, and after that I warm them up and teach them part of a simple song either from a popular musical or (for my younger students) Disney song in order to hear the maturity, tonality, and range they are starting with. If my students do not have a particular song or songs picked out then I assign songs, trying to adhere to the student's interest, during the second lesson. Read More

After spending years in grade school, junior high and high school learning and performing in the band program on trumpet and euphonium, I moved on to play euphonium in The Most Exciting Band in the Land, the Ohio University Marching 110!
