I was also able to cadet teach second grade music for my entire senior year. On top of the education classes that I was required to take in college, I began taking on a couple of voice students to jump start my career as a music teacher. I now teach fifth grade general music and I enjoy every second of it. I believe that learning should be fun and motivating in order to be successful and that is the biggest output that I would like for my voice students. Read More

I believe in a student learning to hear music and think for themselves. Through ear training, creativity, and learning "how" music works, the goal is to get each student to not need a teacher to learn their instrument, but want a teacher so they may become their best version of it. I focus on this as a primary value in my studio. In lessons, we'll use formulas and concepts to understand "why" things sound good, and "how" we actually get better. Read More

Hi, my name is Marianne! I graduated from Garden City Community College in 2011 with an Associate of Arts degree in Piano. From there I transferred to Southwestern Adventist University where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Sciences and minored in Vocal Music. I love to share my passion for music with others, and I hope to convey that to my students as well. My goal is to ignite that passion in my students so that not only they will want to share with others, but that they will find joy in it. Read More

I believe that an understanding of music theory and learning to read music is the foundation of success for both my piano and voice students which is why I typically require my voice students to be taking piano simultaneously with voice. For beginning piano students, I will typically begin with the James Bastien Primer/Level 1 Series with the focus split equally between theory and technique. I require students to fill out a practice log monthly to ensure that they are maintaining the knowledge and skills they learn in lessons and so that parents can be involved in their progress. nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace, so i encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. setting and hitting realistic goals drives motivation and acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more, and keeps the learning process new and exciting etc. by trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs, while the student remains comfortable and confident in his/her abilities etc. Read More

In my studio, the most important thing when structuring lessons is to make them individualized. No two lessons look the same in my studio. If a student wants to work on composing, that will be the focus. If the student wants to work on sight-reading, we'll focus on that. Of course, it's important to be a well-rounded musician, but these lessons are for the students' benefit, not mine, so I'll make sure they leave their lessons with what they want to gain. Read More
