Teaching is my passion! I have been a private piano and voice instructor for over 10 years, as well as a classroom teacher for over 12. I love finding the gifts in all students and nurturing those gifts by sharing my love of music and knowledge. I graduated from Northwest Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education. My career as a musician has given me many enriching opportunities to be involved in vocal performances and teacher-led performances over the last 12 years. Read More

Teaching music is my calling in life. It has taken me many years to actually say that with full confidence, but when I consider the joy I experience while teaching, and also look at the growth and improvement my students experience throughout their time with me, it is really clear: this is what I love, and this is what I have a unique gifting to do. I have two degrees in music: a Master's in Vocal Performance from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, and a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Iowa State University. That's why I suggest they incorporate both note reading and chord theory to their scope and sequence of study. Read More

For both piano and voice students, I like to include a book of tunes with which the student is familiar: movie tunes, Disney songs, etc. For older students, I will focus a little more on the different time periods of music and help them to gain an appreciation for each. As I said above, I always want to have a fun and low-stress environment in my studio. There is nothing worse than coming in to studio practice time tight and stressed about how you may sound. There is no judgement in my studio. Everyone makes mistakes, yes, including me! (Haha) And there is no better way to improve than to make a confident mistake, because that is how we learn how to get better and what we can improve on! Read More
