Because the voice is the only instrument we cannot see with the naked eye, voice lessons must be extremely interactive. I believe in catering each lesson towards the goals of the individual student. I also believe in the collaboration of teacher and student. I am always asking students opinions or reactions on what we work on in the lesson. I think it's important to be kind but firm. It helps to create clear expectations that allow for a student to be most successful. With private lessons, it is important to tailor the sessions for each student individually. Some students require to a "push" while others might want a more relaxed lesson. Together with students we can set goals and a progress map. It is also important to always encourage students in their learning, regardless of what their pace is. Read More

Building the voice - not just the performance to come - is an approach I have found to yield strong technique that can carry students far past any immediate need. Building range, teaching the function and physiology of the vocal anatomy (moreso as students age), and bringing students to understand their voice as an extension of their heart, mind, and body are all simple goals I have for each student.
