I teach both voice and guitar. As an instructor of voice I start with Breathing exercises, posture, and ear training. I take methods from "The Singing Book" by Maribeth Dayme Cynthia Vaughn. With children, I gage how well their grasping the fundamentals before learning songs. Once we've gotten their we move forward to learning about different techniques. The first teaching concept I focus on is the capacity to produce great sounds with the least amount of effort. Therefore I spend some time in getting the student to play very relaxed to create a relationship with body and mind, I believe music is an extension of the body and so if the mind and body are relaxed then music will come out flawless. I began teaching in my undergrad to help pay living expenses and have been teaching ever since in private studio, public schools, and private music schools. In total I have taught for eight years and change. I strongly encourage my students to perform in public and play music with others as much as possible. To help facilitate this I organize two recitals per year where students have the opportunity to showcase their abilities for family and friends and gain valuable performance experience along the way.
