For voice, I focus on proper understanding of the body and its role in singing. I combine this with a breakdown of individual skills followed by performance practice. The combination of the 2 allows there to be an understanding of the correct technique and an immediate opportunity for application. This is accompanied with homework in the form of exercises and books. For violin and piano, it is a similar process. I create and customize lesson plans for each of my students to that it is relevant to their goals and needs. Read More

I believe that creativity is important and I use Alfred and Hal Leonard books as well as theory books to help with the lessons. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I also try to teach music theory, chord progressions and all the musical scales in the major keys. Read More

I started out as a percussionist, studying throughout high school and in to college at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. During my time in Boston, I discovered a bustling bluegrass music scene and my focus switched to stringed instruments, namely the mandolin and the violin. Since College, I have been using all veins of traditional music to join in and build communities of artists. I'm very well connected in the New York City Bluegrass, Irish, and Jazz scenes. Read More

One thing I have in my years teaching various skills and subjects outside of the school system is that anyone who wants to learn something can become emboldened with excitement and passion when they are inspired. With music as such a fundamental part of all human cultures, finding out that you get to be apart of a world that has left you in awe at some point or another in some way or another is massively inspiring and "cool", and that realization is the goal of my music teaching. I began teaching lessons part time five years ago when I was an undergraduate. I have worked with all ages, from young students to teenagers to adult learners. I also have experience coaching small ensembles at summer string camps. I love to give my students opportunities to play music together and for each other. When I was taking lessons as a young student, I found that the community that my teacher fostered at his studio by holding recitals, weekly group classes and holiday events was just as important to my improvement as my one-on-one time with my teacher.
