For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonards Essential Elements book, as well a basic understanding of music. Once the student has progressed to have a nice grasp of the fundamentals of music, I usually begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. I start with the basics and for young students do nursery rhymes and songs they know,this makes it more enjoyable for them. I also ask them what music they would be interested in learning and see if I can find an easy version of this. I use an organized step by step method as a general rule, depending on the students age and ability, seeking to have each student master the fundamentals of rhythm, note reading, technique and expression in a logical easy to understand way. I require practice at least 4 days a week to ensure progress. For preschool age children, I use the Wunderkeys method. I seek to minimize frustration, encourage students to e-mail with questions, use games as a learning tool and assign pieces they like and pieces that are standard repertoire. Read More

I taught privately and later after getting my certification with the state of California I taught for 10 years as an instrumental music instructor with the Clovis Unified School District near Fresno. After that I moved to Los Angeles and taught for 14 years in that capacity with the South Whittier Schools. I started giving Music lessons 20 years ago. I began giving private lessons and group lessons part time in the afternoons after I finish school in the mornings. Young students come to me asking me for lessons after a Gig or performance. I found very interesting and exiting to see the progress of the students with my own personal methods. I have taught beginners to advanced beginners, and most of my students have to this point hired me to train for a particular upcoming audition.
