I started playing the violin when i was 5 years old, I went to Hamilton Country Day School in Attleboro MA as a child where violin was part of the curriculum. I was lucky enough to be the Concert master in the Rhode Island Philharmonic Youth Orchestra in the Prep Strings section when i was 10 years old. I don't have prior experience teaching students, but i have almost 20 years of experience playing, and look forward to sharing what knowledge, and passion for music i have with students of all ages. My teaching experience goes back as far as high school when I started volunteering to teach violin lessons to younger students. In my college years, I taught as part of Oberlin Conservatory's secondary lessons program in addition to teaching members of the Oberlin community of different ages and levels. Currently, I maintain private studios in multiple locations as an addition to my Musika students. Although I do not teach Suzuki method, I do like to use the Suzuki method books as a resource for teaching younger students. The first piece my school-aged students learn will always be one that they know the tune to already: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, for example. Once students are comfortable in holding and using the violin, I introduce a little bit of note reading at each lesson. For adult students, understanding of the instrument will come much faster, so I love getting my students to play music with which they can focus on making a beatiful sound while still learning the fundamentals. I like to have a consistent plan for all of my lessons, so that students know what to expect, as well as the best methods for practicing. I always start my students off with a warm-up consisting of scales or a technical exercise that relates to the piece that we are working on. I then go over the "trouble spots" of a piece with the student before diving into longer sections. Read More

Sharing my knowledge with my students and seeing them achieve something they worked hard for, and being part of the process is one of the biggest joys in teaching for me. I always aim to help my students produce a beautiful tone, while making sure they are not doing wrong physical movements that would make things difficult. I remember when I helped a 6 year old start the violin from scratch, and not too long after, she was able to play happy birthday to her grandparents and even on her own birthday. Read More
