I am a life-long musician [age 5 - present] from a family of musicians who have played with everyone from Fanny Brice (my grandfather) to Benny Goodman (my mother) to Steve Miller (myself). I attended Berklee College of Music in Boston , MA from 1975-1979 and left (5 weeks short of my degree) to perform in a rock band who toured for 5 years in the US and Canada. My attitude allows students to accept mistakes as part of the journey of guitar playing, while at the same time understanding that it is the correction of mistakes and discipline to play correctly that segways into higher level playing, and that the ultimate drive behind guitar playing is the passion to learn and expand their horizons either by attempting new techniques or ideas, or simply being exposed to new types of music. For piano- I teach out of several method books- Faber, Bastein, John Thompson and Alfred's. I also implement Dozen a Day for piano technique and Hanon and scales. I use Czerny for the intermediate student. For voice- I work to build a solid understanding of breath, posture, vowel sounds and shapes, singing legato, etc. I believe a classical technique in both instruments is the best foundation for growth into any style.
