For beginning students who are children, I typically start with the Suzuki Method and playing by ear. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire on sheet music appropriate for their level of performance. It is important to stress the fundamentals of technique for my beginner students before just playing music. I like to incorporate music theory within their lessons, so not only are they able to hear a piece of music and can start playing but can also read sheet music that is put in front of them. My teaching style is flexible and fun! I love seeing students learn and develop a passion for music. While it is important to correct errors in order to be able to learn, i think it is equally if not more important to focus on a students accomplishments. Setting realistic goals is also important when working with students. My students need to feel good about their playing and what they have accomplished in order to continue to be willing to work towards their goals. Read More

Turning any instrument from an uncomfortable, difficult task to fun and enjoyable part of a student's life is my number one priority! When I see a student accomplish a goal they set for themselves, it makes me feel so wonderful to witness them accomplish their goal. Read More

After college, where I acquired extensive experience as a performer, I decided to dive into teaching. I am a fairly new teacher (six months experience), and it has been quite exciting to formalize my methods as I find the style that best suits me and my students. What I have learned most in my time teaching is the importance of games, challenges, and performance opportunities to keep learning fun and to motivate students to strive for that next level. I am teacher for about twenty years. I love challenges and exploring new possibilities. I like to motivate my students by giving them various music material to play. This way the student achieves playing different music songs/pieces within shorter period of time. However, if some student needs to concentrate on a single piece for an extended amount of time-then I make sure that we work on all details regarding to technique and melodic elements of this particular piece of music.
