I like to begin the first lesson by recognizing the students strengths by having them show me what they can accomplish on their own. There are specific books that I like to teach out of depending on the skill level so that needs to be addressed during the first lesson. Recognizing and building on strengths to me should come before criticising weaknesses. Those will be addressed as they come along and exercises with scales and etudes will be chosen for those weaknesses, but that does not mean that challenging music needs to be played each and every time so that the student has to struggle for greatness. Back when I was in Venezuela, I was playing in my city's orchestra the entire time from 2002 to 2018. In that orchestra, which is a part of the renowned "El Sistema". El Sistema is a system that helps underserved communities get the music knowledge they would otherwise not be able to get. We had different levels of orchestras, from beginners to advanced. Practice makes perfect. I ask students to practice as often as possible, no matter the skill level. I prefer students to start practice with scales and warm-up drills, then move on to composed pieces. Along with practice, I hope that students will not only play, but listen to their music, such as the Suzuki method. The more familiar students are with the different pitches in a song, the better they will be able to adjust their performance to correctly match. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music and want to continue to play the violin not just as a hobby! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson and knowing the strength behind private lessons as opposed to group lessons only. The student is more likely to progress if they are consistently practicing and have private lessons with their teacher to develop technique and skill in a one-on-one learning environment. Read More

I started playing violin at the age of nine through my elementary schools string program. In addition to performing with the Discovery Middle School and Timber Creek High School orchestras, I participated every year in the all-county and all-state orchestras and served as associate concertmaster of the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra. I completed a double major in general music and engineering at Northwestern University in Chicago. I have professional performance experience playing violin in orchestras, as a pit musician for musical theater and for freelance gigs such as weddings. Read More
