I taught on and off while in Malaysia during the pandemic (due to the nature of COVID), but I have gotten into regular teaching since moving to LA in 2022. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, its important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress and this makes students eager to learn more. I think it is important to have a strong foundation when you're learning to play an instrument. And what is absolutely essential is scales. If you can play scales well, then you're off to a good start! You may very well be able to learn new music faster and play the pieces better! The way I teach students is starting with setting a goal for each lesson time. After setting a goal, I will organize time to spend to go through anything we need to work on together.
