My teaching style is adaptive to the students goals! I am a fairly easy going teacher that will help meet students where they are at, and walk with them on their growth journey. We will progress at the student's personal pace. My style can range from working casually on a new song each week, trying to perfect that concerto you have been working on, helping pre-professionals get to the musical level they need to achieve to become a professional themselves, or somewhere in the middle! After graduating college, I was the resident trumpet at the Barter Theater in Abingdon, Virginia, before completing three contracts as a show band musician on board Celebrity Cruise ships. I have toured Europe with my university's top jazz ensemble, as well as toured the United States with two different professional drum corps, Carolina Crown and Jersey Surf. I have taught at summer camps and after school programs, and I just love to share my love of music with others. Read More

I aim to teach my students the difference between "playing the trumpet" and "making music" and how this distinction is applied to practice. "Playing the trumpet" is a physically demanding task that requires diligent, often tedious practice to become skilled at. "Making music", on the other hand, can be done by anyone at any skill level and is lots of fun. The goal of practicing the trumpet is to become so familiar with the instrument that it becomes an extension of our body and mind, as effortless and automatic to perform as breathing or walking. I began teaching during my undergrauate years at Rutgers. I began my teaching experience at Stokes State Forest Music Camp, in which I was able to coach small chamber groups, band and orchestra sectionals, music theory, as well as one-on-one instruction. I still teach there every summer, and the skill level and work ethic continues to improve every year. In 2010 I was placed in Edison High School for my student teaching assignment. Read More

My teaching style is to identify what area a student needs help in and to remediate the problem by creating supplemental materials. Showing students what to practice and how to practice are key elements. My methods are geared to improve tone production, articulation, phrasing and musicality. I strongly recommend that students select classical music to practice. I heavily emphasize the playing of scales and arpeggios. The composers that are the best to study include Bach, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Schumann and Brahms. Read More

Hi, my name is Matt and i love nature and logic. I believe in the healthy trumpet approach with the proper respiratory methods. I value and respect all schools of teaching although i revert to a more liberal way of learning where the student and the teacher can learn together. I have attended the philadelphia hs for creative and performing arts and now study at CCP in my 6th year for Music Education. Read More

I'm a very energetic and outgoing person and really want all of my students to succeed in every aspect as a musician and trumpet player. It is very important to me I know my students well so I can adapt to their learning style, their needs, their abilities, and their goals. By knowing these crucial aspects of each student I can better adapt my teaching style and give each individual student the best directional techniques to grow, learn, and develop into a great musician! ***Lesson Structure*** Private instruction is a great opportunity for a student to learn the details to playing trumpet and making music.
