My teaching style is very thorough and patient. I welcome mistakes! Please make mistakes! It is not about how often you fall down, but about how you get up again. If you want to work hard, I will work hard as well. My students know the importance of regular practice in order to build dependable muscle memory in their singing. In a lesson we will spend half the amount of time working on technical building exercises and half the time working on repertoire. Read More

Ever since I can remember, I've been singing and learning everything I can about music. I studied composition at Haverford College, where I led a number of vocal ensembles and music directed several musical theater productions. While at Haverford, I toured colleges on the East Coast with my male-voiced a cappella group, and I also toured both Mexico and Germany with the Chamber singers of Haverford and Bryn Mawr Colleges. I have been teaching voice and piano over 25 years. I am a singer, accompanist, actor and writer. I also have my own light opera company and have experience as a director and costumer. Over the years I have taught at public and patrochial schools, two colleges, privately, and at two music schools. I have performed opera, operetta, musical theatre, cabaret, oratorio, church music, and as a comedic and serious actor. Read More

It is important for both me and my student to have long-term and short-term goals. Long-term goals may have to do with technique--for voice, examples may be releasing tension or singing with proper breath support. Short term goals are more linked to repertoire and can be technical or musical. An example on the piano may be playing through a piece with a particular metronome marking. I have each of my students use a practice log so both the student and I can keep track of short-term goals. Read More

The most important thing for me as a teacher is to see my students having fun, and really enjoying learning their instrument. I want to see them be passionate about getting better because they’re excited about what’s coming next. By learning about the students goals, and also learning about their musical taste and the kinds of music that inspire them, I can create a lesson plan that totally dedicated to each individual student so that they get the most out of their lesson, and so that I get them closer to their goal. It has been a humbling privilege of mine to perform around the world and I have had the opportunity to perform in David Geffen Hall in NYC, Carnegie Hall, Kimmel Center in Philadelphia as well as major venues in Kansas City, Chicago, Ireland, Italy, and Spain. I was a member of the world-renowned Westminster Choir for 2 years during my graduate program and, in 2017, we had the honor of representing the United States at the World Choral Symposium in Barcelona, Spain. I am able to teach classical, rock, jazz, pop, gospel and RB at a beginner/intermediate level. As someone who grew up playing music because of an innate joy and love for it, I also always allow my students' musical interests and goals to dictate the material we cover. I then use whatever material it is to pull different musical theories or concepts from them and teach a larger lesson that can then be applied to any future songs. Read More
