Overview:
I'm a full-time professional trumpet performer and brass -Jazz education . I graduated from the University of the Arts in 2009 on full scholarship. I have performed with some of the greatest musicians in the world such as Earth Wind and fire, Michael McDonald, Aretha Franklin, Jill Scott to name a few. I was featured as a Solist for the United Jazz trumpet Tour with features the best Jazz Solist alive today. I am on records with Grammy nominated /winning artist such as Maysa , Jaheim, Music Soul Child, Bilal, Jazzy Jeff, Kindred Family Stone and many others. I have done major fests circuits across country. I have teaching experience doing master classes for the Kimmel Center. I teach brass in the public school district also at Lumberton School of music.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching students for about 15 years now both in private and class room settings. I teach a range from 3 all the way up to 65. I am very patient and detail oriented. All my students learn a solid foundation while facilitating room for individuality and creativity. My style of teaching is all about keeping students engaged and motivated to get better at their craft everyday. I also encourage students to apply my methods to teach themselves and others when I'm not around. The knowledge that I share was passed down to me to apply for myself the best way I know how.
METHODS USED
I'm adamant about learning exercises from the "Arbans Book". This book is essential the brass bible that teaches proper fundamental techniques while developing reading skills. We will extensively on flexibility and scales through out all stages of development as well as intonation on the instrument. I am also really detailed about developing ear training to identify notes with out use of music and vice versa. A complete musician can both read and use his trained ear. We will learn lots of repertoire to develop overall musicianship skills and to over come performance anxieties that many students and performers in general have.
LESSON STYLE
My approach to teaching varies with every student a come across. I try to get a good grasp of their strengths and weaknesses while also identifying their nature gifts. All musicians have unique abilities and ways of expressing their talents. I am very much open to artistic freedoms and catering to different approaches for each individual student. I strive to facilite resources to allow my students to set realistic goals for themselves. They have to actually see their vision and in order to realize their goals.
