I began teaching lessons when I was in college five years ago, and have continued teaching in New Jersey. I do not yet have a home studio, but am willing to go straight to the student as well as conduct online lessons. I taught elementary and middle school music in the Oakland Public School District, and taught elementary general music at Sporting Hill Elementary School. I began teaching during my undergrauate years at Rutgers. I began my teaching experience at Stokes State Forest Music Camp, in which I was able to coach small chamber groups, band and orchestra sectionals, music theory, as well as one-on-one instruction. I encourage my students to learn at their own pace and push them when I see I can. I do not want to deter my students from liking what they do. I try to find the passion for a style of music and bring it out in my students while connecting that style to other styles to show the student that styles are idiosynchratic, but that they can also interchange with other styles. After the first couple of lessons, I will set goals with the student, and their parent (if the student is a child.) Being able to acknowledge that a goal has been met allows the student to have a desire to continue with the instrument they are learning. Passing goals and allows the student eager to learn. I hold a Master's Degree in Trumpet Performance from Long Island University C.W Post and a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education K-12 from Manhattanville College. I am in my third year as the Director of local High School Marching Band as well as a sitting member of the New York State Field Band Conference Executive Council as a Representative. Prior to this, I had performed in a variety of marching ensembles which include: The Tappan Zee Bridgeman, Featured soloist with the Hawthorne Caballeros Drum and Bugle Corps, Featured soloist with the West Sayville Golden Eagles Mini Corps, and a member of the Syracuse Brigadiers Drum and Bugle Corps. After graduating from college I joined the Peace Corps. I spent 2 years in Tehran, Iran playing in the Tehran Symphony Orchestra. I returned to the U.S. and went back to school to get my Masters degree. I worked as a music teacher in the Bronx, N.Y. for several years. After that I worked at an electronic music studio in Hawthorne, N.Y. The studio eventually shut down and I began teaching Band at the Stamford Public Schools where I taught music at the elementary, middle and high school levels. Read More
