Like Most trumpet players, I follow and believe in using essential trumpet books (Arbans, Clarke, Flexus, Schlossberg, etc) and use others that depend on the desires of the musician. For children and/or beginners, I incorporate a little keyboard, to help with some theory basics, since all the notes are laid out. I have always struggled with my musical interests differing from my teachers while growing, so I develop my lessons based on each student, and play music that will both incorporate the teachings of the lesson, and also play music that is enjoyable for them, as well as etudes, or anything they would like to work on. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for student, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. For beginning students, I usually work with Hal Leonard's essential elements as well as use the piano as a tool for them to hear the pitches they are playing. Once the fundamentals are grasped we can work on introductory solo repertoire. For children I'd like to make this a bit more fun as well, introducing some easy tunes they will be familiar with or excited to play. Originally from Houston, TX, I began my music studies in 2010 and graduated from Sam Houston State University with my Bachelor's degree in Music Education. I went to earn a Master's degree in Music Performance from the University of Houston in 2017. I recently moved to New York City after being accepted into the Manhattan School of Music's Professional Studies program for classical trumpet. In October of 2018, I won the 2nd trumpet position with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic Orchestra and have performed as principal trumpet and soloist with the orchestra. Read More

As far as my style of teaching, I would use the book, Accent on Achievement as I mentioned earlier as a base. Practicing every day for at least 30 minutes is a must not only from the book but by just playing long tones, playing major scales which I will also go over and possibly some songs to keep the student interested in his instrument. Also try to understand what type of style the student is leaning on whether it be Jazz, blues, classical or pop and we can try to develop the student to fit that style. Read More
