Performing and teaching music are passions of mine as they are apart of my everyday life. I have been playing the Trumpet for 14 years and I am proficient in both Jazz and Classical music. I graduated from Towson University in Fall 2012 with a bachelors degree in Jazz Performance. I am excited to expand my musical network by meeting students, peers, and role models alike. I began teaching private lesson upon graduating high school in 1988 with a focus on the development of the "lead player". Over the years I have helped many trumpet players establish their upper register with a balance of power and flexibility. At the same time I have maintained the focus on proper tone and projection that is appropriate for the style being played. In the first lesson, I assess the student's current ability and also discuss the student's personal goals and interests in music. Based on this information, I create a daily fundamentals routine for the student to use to improve the basic building blocks of playing a musical instrument. I also allow students to bring in music that interests them from solo material and pieces of music from band class. Approximately half of the weekly lesson is spent on fundamental materials that I assign weekly, and the other half is spent on the student's chosen material. Read More

My professional experience includes trumpet with the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, and the Fabulous Fifties Big Band. My professional teaching experience started in 1986 with teaching students one-on-one. My students have achieved lifelong skills on piano, brass, woodwind, and guitar. I teach in my studio and I travel to family homes. I teach classical, jazz, and gospel music styles. I have a lot of experience with curriculum development. My favorite books to teach from include Accent on Achievement, Alfred's Piano Book series and Essential Elements. However I can teach without a book on any instruments and compose assignments as I have done in the past. Even if I am teaching using a book, I usually do a lot of ear training and music theory based assignments that are not found in these books. Read More
