However, I have used other series such as Faber or Bastien with some other students, especially if they have had prior lessons and were taught on those methods. I always like to use lesson, performance, and theory books, to allow students to not only learn new concepts as they progress, but also learn pieces that can become performance-ready, and gain a wider understanding for the theory behind the musical concepts. I started teaching private lessons in college, about four or five years ago. I have taken students on several different instruments, mainly saxophone, piano and guitar. I find that it is important to encourage students to play and practice the type of music they enjoy, and to have fun performing and learning. I also believe that students should play in recitals, bands, and get other performance experiences while taking private lessons in order to improve their overall musicianship. Read More
