Overview:
I am a driven teaching artist that enjoys teaching music as an art to students of all ages. With my experiences, I apply many styles to my line of teaching to ensure each student reaches his/her potential in a postively progressing way. I graduated from Frostburg State University in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Music Business and Arts Management, along with studies in Music Education in order to receive my Teaching Certificate. Performing outside the United States has been one of my greatest accomplishments as a musician, however, as a teacher, my greatest accomplishment has been the success of my students.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching music can be dated back to 2003, as I first started out teaching a community choir in Frostburg, I then transitioned to teaching for Baltimore City Public School System as a Choral and Piano teacher from 2008-2014. I currently teach students in my home studio, and have been for the past 6 years. I have had experience teaching from many different curriculums and understand how to cater to each students' needs with an emphasis on patience and practice. Getting my students to understand how consistency is much more important than anything else when it comes to practice is the first thing I strive for. I've found that making music learning a fun experience is what will help the student learn. No matter the age, training classically and applying music that the student enjoys is very important to keep the interest level high while not compromising the integrity of music as an art. I encourage all students to enter competitions, audition for school productions, participate in jam sessions, or sit in on professional rehearsals to expose them to the performance atmosphere. This ensures confidence is boosted, social skills (musically) are increased, discipline is attained, and above all, they understand how powerful and fun music learning can be.
METHODS USED
For my young beginning piano students, I apply the Piano Adventures Method by Nancy and Randall Faber. For my older beginning piano students (13/14 and up), I apply the Alfred Adult Piano Method to ensure the material meets the student at his/her academic level. As for all woodwind students, I apply the Reubank Methody (Beginning, Intermediate, Advance), alongside Hal Leonard's Essential Elements for students currently in a school band. Once each student has reached a satisfactory level of performance, solo repertoire is then introduced. Supplmental material is also introduced for students that have an interest in other musical styles and wish to learn a little more than Classical music.
LESSON STYLE
Progression is my primary goal for each student. When my students grow, I grow. It is imperitive that each student remembers that growth is an individualized thing. I first encourage my students to set goals. Knowing what my student has an interest in doing/becoming will help me understand better how to pace the lessons. I always encourage consistent practice and acknowledging each student's accomplishment helps drive the student's desire to want to progress. My teaching is catered to each student.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
