I'm a pianist, accordionist, arranger, and composer. I find a lot of joy in learning and understanding music. The styles I specialize in on piano are ragtime and early jazz, and Latin and French music on the accordion. Although this is my specialty, it certainly isn't the limits of what I am able to teach. I'm a 24 year old composer, pianist, researcher, programmer and teacher from Los Angeles. I recently completed my bachelor's at New England Conservatory, where I studied piano with Bruce Brubaker and Ethan Iverson, and composition with John Mallia and Efstratios Minakakis. As a composer, my work engages acoustic and electronic sound, composition, software and electrical engineering to explore new modes of human and other-than-human interaction. My recent compositions include "Bona Dea", a vocal cyborg comprising 12 singers networked by live pulse data and haptic feedback; and "Works for Strings and Datura Innoxia in Lunar Regolith Simulant", a set of string pieces I wrote to catalyze the germination of California-native flowers growing in synthetic lunar rocks. Technical abilities are very important of course as they set the limitations of self-expression, though many seem to overlook the deeper purposes and benefits of music. I myself love my craft. I began teaching piano in 1995, in several private Music Schools, in Porto and Lisbon. Apart from the instrument, I also taught Music Theory, and Music Composition. I taught students aged 6 all the way up to sixty-seven (my oldest so far, but records are meant to be broken). My students have performed in recitals organized by the schools. After studying jazz performance at the University of New Orleans under the tutelage of jazz icon Ellis Marsalis, I attended the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston being awarded the Best Entering Student Talent scholarship in '02 and the Berklee Achievement-based Scholarship in '02, '03 and '04 graduating with honors in 2005 with a Major in Bass Performance. Since graduation, I have been busy playing bass with a diverse range of ensembles.I have performed and recorded with New England jazz artists such as Lee Fish, Julien Kasper, Michael Shea, Alexei Tsiganov, Maxim Lubarsky, Angela Rossi and many others. While still in college, I was a music tutor at North Star in Hadley For two years. I worked one-on-one with students in middle school on both voice and guitar. During my time there, I taught kids anything from different chords on the guitar, to breath support and passion in one's singing, to vocal improvisation and stage confidence.
