Berklee has always been a dream of mine. I studied Music Therapy at Berklee College of Music in 2015. I worked with children and adults with developmental disabilities and mental health. I had been an ardent member of the Berklee Indian Ensemble. I worked with various artists such as Vijay Prakash, Raghu Dixit, Indian Ocean and Shreya Ghoshal. I also went on a tour with them once. For younger children, I typically start with the fundamentals such as distinguishing between the head voice and the chest voice. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for said student. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in both repertoire and vocal goals, and guide my instruction according to their goals. I began teaching private voice lessons to high school-age children in 2016. Since then, I have had the opportunity to work with people ages 5-30. The Metropolitan Opera Guild was an excellent teaching experience, where my mentors included teachers at Lincoln Center and New England Conservatory alumni. As a participant in NEC's Vocal Pedagogy program, I had the experience of teaching lessons to my colleagues in NEC Opera. This year I will be serving as a Voice Teaching Assistant, teaching voice lessons to non-majors as part of their curriculum. Read More

The method of teaching is as follows: 1) assess where the student is in music and in life, 2) ask about goals in music, 3) formulate objective to reach those goals, 4) rethink things when needed (students aren't cookies, so I can't use a cookie cutter). I do focus on things in order though. If you don't know your fundamentals, then that's where we start no matter what. I have been teaching over 8 years. I had the privilege to teach at a very young age at my teachers’ request. I tutored students who needed extra help, or had failed their exams. I taught oboe, piano, solfege, harmony and ear training. At the time, I didn’t know how much responsibility I was taking on. But, after seeing all of them pass, I realized I could do more than help them succeed in one class. Read More

I have been consistently teaching private music lessons for the past 18 years. I began my own music education with piano and was always very active with choral singing during my younger years. I began studying voice in college, and found the piano background was an invaluable asset! At the end of high school I had traveled internationally for choral competitions and throughout college, I continued with classical solo performances, while branching in to opera roles and musical theater productions. It is important for me to know my students in order to create a lesson plan and learning experience that works. I ask lots and lots of questions and work hard to challenge my students without any pressure. I hope that they will be excited for their lessons and eager to learn. I typically write out a list of things we are working on and request that my students set a timer and practice 10 minutes at a time on 2 to 4 different days during the week. Read More
