I conduct my beginner lessons with a spirit of play. I believe this engages the attention and energy of the student, promoting deeper learning. My students build self-esteem by mastering new skills. Skills are taught in a sequential way so all students can feel successful. I teach students how to practice so that each student learns how to accomplish their goals. Regular practice is an important part of piano lessons and advances musical understanding as well as muscle flexibility and control. Read More

- My teaching style is one of the many things that sets me a part from other teachers. I work to create a fundamental relationship with my students to find out what their goals are, what specific level they are at currently, and where they want to take their talents. Once I’ve discovered these essential things, I work with my student at their own pace of comfort and challenge to allow them to learn the things that interest them as well as continue to develop as a musician. For beginning students I use Faber and John Thompson books. Once the student improves of course we upgrade to more challenging songs and books. For adults I find out what they're interested in and instruct accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and always fun no matter what. I base my teaching method on my strong, enthusiastic, optimistic, patient, and loving character. I make sure the student feels comfortable, is not overwhelmed by the material, and I take any amount of time until the material is thoroughly understood. Read More

I was the founding music teacher at St. Benedict's Episcopal school in Smyrna, GA where I taught music K-8 for seven years. Then I joined The SAE School in Mableton, GA, where for the past three years I have taught K-12 music, creating a new middle school orchestra and high school Project Based Learning curriculum for music. When working with beginning students who are children, I typically start with the Alfred series. This method offers a comprehensive approach to learning the fundamentals of music, including rhythm, note reading, and instrumental techniques. As the student gains confidence and develops a solid understanding of these basics, I gradually introduce them to solo repertoire that is well-suited for their first recital performance. This not only helps them apply what theyve learned but also builds their performance skills and stage presence. Read More

Generally, my teaching style depends on the student. Why is that? Everyone is unique, and everyone learns differently. It would be absolutely foolish of me to ever think that I can use one teaching method or style for each and every student. So I teach based on the student's learning style and predispositions. Also I tend to do alot of finger techniques as well as aural training, because I believe even though music reading is essential, it does you no good if you can't respond musically to the sounds and the nuances of your environment.
