I grew up appreciating music at an early age as my dad was an avid music listener of classical, jazz, new age, and feature film soundtracks. At the age of 20 I started to get interested in learning the guitar because I loved the way acoustic guitars sounded. I studied in the music programs at Pasadena City College and Mount San Antonio College for a period of about 2 years. I took guitar lessons privately for about 3 years. Read More

For beginning students, I always start with technique and posture, as improper technique can be catastrophic to your playing down the line. From there we'll cover the basics, such as chord shapes, strumming patterns, and scales. On top of that, each student will receive a "riff of the week", a guitar riff from a song that is in line with their particular music tastes. My philosophy of teaching is to help the student play the music that he or she wants to play and give the student a practical understanding of the guitar and music theory. I teach the skills that enable the student to apply themselves to all forms of music. Each student is an individual and is taught in a manner that inspires his or her personality. Read More

I love to teach. I studied in Physics, Astronomy, Engineering, and Mathematics, but music and teaching have always been in my life, teaching students throughout high school and college at UGA as a second job. I took trips to Mexico over the summers from 2002-2005 playing music for children and students in between manual labor mission work. My music performance experience ranges from large outdoor venues in front of a large crowd to sitting and recording acoustic and electric lead tracks in a studio. Read More

It's important to cultivate a student's musical knowledge by building upon their current foundation. Similar to the way children learn a language, music students of all ages should start by listening and singing/playing before learning to read and even write. Combining this natural approach with a focus on how and why to develop good technique helps students get the results they're looking for. Read More
