Marcus grew up in various cities along the Eastern Coast of the United States. Throughout his school career, he sang in choirs and ensembles, which helped to shape his love of music. At the age of 15, Marcus received his first guitar, and has never looked back. Marcus moved to Virginia, just outside Washington, D.C., where he sought to study under Jay Brighton. Jay had a profound influence on Marcus in the areas of music theory, ear training, and, most importantly, the discipline of practice.  After studying with Jay for a few years, Marcus moved to Virginia Beach, VA where he learned from players such as Scott Mishoe and Jay Rakes. In the mean time, Marcus began playing in various bands and recorded his first album Martian Landscape. At times, you would even be able to catch Marcus on stage with Paul Gilbert.  Upon graduating from high school, Marcus wanted to further his knowledge of the music industry, so he moved to Nashville, TN and attended Middle Tennessee State University to study Recording Engineering. During his college years, Marcus continued to play in several bands; he played on numerous recording projects; he taught private lessons; he played in musicals such as Little Shop of Horrors and Grease; and in his spare time, he studied under professional session guitarist, Gwain Reifsnider. Marcus is now working on new material, doing various studio dates, working with different bands and teaching private lessons in the Atlanta area.

I have been teaching guitar for over 20 years. My teaching style is tailored to each student with an emphysis on making the lessons fun and interesting. I worked as a road musician for 15 years playing with many big name band such as The Classics IV and Billy Joe Royal and shared the stage with tons of professional road bands like: Blood, Sweat & Tears, Steppinwolf and The Allman Brothers to name a few. I love to teach guitar and especially enjoy working with kids and beginners, but can teach from beginners to advanced students.

I have over 13 years of experience playing the guitar: over 5 years of guitar lessons taken from credible music teaching establishments, and 10 years of playing and organizing live performances. I have taught anyone who is willing to learn how to play the guitar after my first legitimate guitar lesson. It was then I discovered my love for spreading my knowledge and skills for arguably most sacred and universal language, MUSIC! I believe in myself and my abilities and am determined to instill this into every one of my guitar students. My guitar students want to practice; my love for music is contagious and borderline quirky. My favorite guitar teacher and mentor, Richard Young Jr. was no different; he was such an inspiration I almost needed him to see me succeed. I felt pretty lousy if I didn't practice. I practiced and felt better. So I kept doing it. I am a mentor and role model to most of my students as most of them are young, whether I know it, want to be, or don't. My students, parents, their homes, and privacy are treated with the utmost respect, honor, integrity, and honesty.

I'm a dedicated music teacher who loves motivating my students to be their best. I teach voice, piano, and guitar, as well as beginners on brass instruments and steel drum. I graduated from the University of Alabama in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education and a minor in Spanish. I love music as a way to challenge myself and others, to communicate things that words can't say, and to take us to new and exciting places.
