For my beginning classical music students, I require four inexpensive keyboard books for learning and skills. I use the John Thompson series for basic learning. A notespeller by Alfred is used for theory. In addition, I use two other study books. The Alfred Technic book is aimed at measurably increasing a student's skill at the keyboard. I also use a recital book for extracurricular study. As my piano students progress with their lessons, they graduate into more difficult levels of these needed books. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my days of study, as I began teaching private lessons part time 12 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 10 years as well as doing workshops in different countries. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the singing or instrument. My methods are geared toward the individual. Oftentimes I might start with a methods book for a beginner, but supplement it with musical choices by the individual. In selecting these choices, I find ways to simplify the music so that the student is able to be able to play it. My method is also based on questions that the student might ask. So while we will have an approach that is organized and structured, I find that addressing seemingly unrelated musical questions, can actually be incorporated into the tasks at hand. Read More

I believe one can grow as a musician at any age, expertise, and understanding. I do use printed method books for my students to guide them along the process (Hal Leonard, Rubank, Taffanael and Gaubert Bernstein to name a few) for the child, methods and scales will be assigned to teach proper technique and positioning. For the adult, depending on their interests, different types of reading music material will be introduced. Read More

I have been teaching guitar and piano since high school. Throughout college I began to take on more students and teach group classes in guitar and jazz. I've had the opportunity to learn from some of the best music educators around. The study of musical pedagogy is a top priority for me. I'm a firm believer in the concept of students learning at their own pace. The last thing I want to do, is make you feel stress when playing/performing! Read More
