I feel the best approach is to used what the student may learn the best. My personal favorite studies are made by Alfred's Piano Methods. I like to used their lesson, theory, and technique books. Hanon and Czerny exercises are also important for developing sound and technique. I require my student to practice for a hour our more a day. In addition to the studies I like to offer a recital one to two times a year. Read More

I completed a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance, May 2017; and, am currently pursuing a second Masters degree in Accompanying at Florida State University where I am an opera accompanist. My experience as a teacher began around four years ago when I started teaching piano lessons to young musicians at a local music studio in Trinity, Florida. I expect students to practice to show weekly improvement. I encourage younger students by rewarding them with stickers if they do a go job when they play their selections for me. Every student is encouraged to improve and have fun at the same time. There is a year end recital where students will perform and showcase what they have learned during the year. (Not mandatory) Students are encouraged to go to performances of the Artist Series (free to children 12 and under). Read More

Instruments: Piano Voice

What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
The main - to do all recommendations of teacher. Because when you learn new informations, when you get new skills - many things are unundestandeble. Just with time you will understand all clearly. After each lesson teacher will give you home work, which will help to you grow like musician.

When will I start to see results?
Each moment durin the lesson can give some results. Training music is gradual process, and we need to understand that it's impossible to got all skills in a few lessons. A lot of depends on teacher, but a lot of depends also from student: how fast he(she) is learning information. Why one teacher can have different results from two-three piano students of Level 2... Because each student is working with different goals, in different tempos, with different love to music.

Did you have a teacher that inspired you to go into music? How did they inspire you?
Nobody inspired me to learn music, I just wanted do sing and that's all. I am very thankfull for my parents for support and help in developing me like concert singer and good musician. Now I am very happy during each moment of doing music: during choosing new repertoire, during learning new repertoire, during performing recitals (solo or with choir or with orchestra), during work with my students, during leading music goups. I love it and I am happy to do it.

Why did you choose your primary instrument?
Because I love it. It's impossimbe to explane why I love it, like impossible to explaine why I prefer oranges instead of apples. I just love the taste of oranges . The same is with singing - because I love to sing, because I enjoy different melodies, different stories of each song. And it makes me happy.

Have any of your students won awards or been selected for special honors? How have they succeeded?
A few of my students are winners of regional vocal competitions - first places, some of them had a vocal recitals at concert halls durind their studying years. When they came to me, they said , that they are ready to do everything and learn everything to be successfull singers. Their goal - to be professional singers. And I was giving them so much information so they could except.

What is your favorite style/genre of music to play and why?
I love classical style.

If you play more than one instrument, how did you decide to start playing the second? (Or 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc)!
The first of all I am a singer. Also I play piano or organ when it's necessary, and conduct when it's necessary. I can do all this because during my education in Ukraine I should learn piano and conducting. It were necessary subjects which I should learn.

Does music run in your family? Tell us a little about your musical family members.
Yes. I am professional lyric coloratura soprano, vocal and piano teacher and choir and orchestra conductor. My husbend is professional organist too. His is the organist, pianist, ogran and piano teacher, orchestra conductor. Now he is working as church organist at Trinity United Methodist Church, Tallahassee, Fl. Together we had many concerts in Ukrainian concert and organ halls. Here in USA we continue to play recitals together. Also we play duets (organ + piano) and sing together during church services.

When did you decide to become a professional musician? Was it a gradual decision or was there a defining moment for you?
I decided to be professional musician at 5 years old. But I surted to learn music at 14 years. Unfortunately in my village (where I was growing) were no possibility to learn voice, and I started to learn bandura - National Ukrainian instrument. It was just one instrument with which I could sing songs on stage. Just vocal department we didn't have in my region. I didn't love this instrument but because of huge love to singing I was ready to learn it too. And so I learnd this instrument and singing till 24 years old. Then, after my graduation, I left bandura and I am just singing .

Celtic Harpist Anne Roos

...early 20s. How did you decide to focus on the harp? Did you begin with other instruments or has it always been the harp? My initial focus was on vocal music. I performed in madrigal groups at the Northern and Southern California Renaissance Fairs. I started playing the harp quite by accident—Call it serendipity. I attended a Winter Solstice festival at California State University Northridge, and there was a lady sitting in a booth surrounded by little harps. She told me that if I wanted to learn how to play that she’d rent me a harp and teach me how. At the time I ... Read More
