Sharing how to make music is a passion of mine. I earned my Bachelor's in Piano Pedagogy, and, as of May 2016, my MM in Piano Pedagogy from Texas Christian University. For the last 5 years, I have taught piano private and group lessons of all ages. Both lesson types are beneficial for students, since each has his own learning style. My approach is always to make music first. Yes I like to teach how to play "correctly" and all the "right" notes, but at the end of the day there is something bigger to take from music. Music moves people and it is my job as a teacher to show my students that beauty. The point of the lesson is to teach the student how to practice the materials and better themselves. I just want to see my students try, that is most important to me. At a younger age, I like to explore music they might already know or recognize from some form of media. I like to make sure the learning environment is stress free and nonthreatening. I believe the psychology of music is dynamic. My goal is to get teacher and student to always be sensitive to the affective attributes that music has on the listener and the performer. CAPA provided Alissa with the opportunity to play and perform with the All-City Philadelphia Orchestra, Curtis Institute of Music, Temple Orchestra, as well as performing with the conductor of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Yannick Nézet-séguin. Alissa continued on to Rowan College after high school, continuing to teach lessons from home. In addition to consistent practice, Alissa has tutored many younger students for piano and violin within her schools, and has taught lessons to children of friends and family. Read More

Because the voice is the only instrument we cannot see with the naked eye, voice lessons must be extremely interactive. I believe in catering each lesson towards the goals of the individual student. I also believe in the collaboration of teacher and student. I am always asking students opinions or reactions on what we work on in the lesson. I want to empower my students at every level to become more aware of their instrument to the point that they can eventually become their own teacher to a certain extent. Read More
