Overview:

I am an experienced teacher and accomplished performer and I love sharing my passion for music and experience as a teacher and performer with my students.  I have degrees in Music Education and Vocal Performance.  I am an accomplished singer, actress, music director, pianist and teacher.

EXPERIENCE

My teaching experience began right after college when I started my voice and piano studio in Ohio.  I maintained a private voice and piano studio for several years until moving to the East Coast. My students participated in several recitals throughout the year and competed in area music competitions. For several years, I taught music in the public schools and at the university level.  I am also an active performer and music director in many area theaters.  I enjoy teaching students of all ages and levels, and have experience teaching beginner and advanced, pro and novice.

METHODS USED

For beginning piano students who are children, I usually start with Faber and Faber methods and performance books.  I supplement with other solo materials as the student progresses.  For beginning adult piano students, I use Alfred's Adult PIano Method.  For the more advanced students, music is typically chosen from a variety of sources, so that the student is playing music that is challenging and enjoyable. Voice students generally begin with the basics of voice technique and singing.  Songs are chosen depending on the student's area of interest, ranging from classical, opera, musical theater, pop and more.  Students are taught how to expand their range, improve tone, proper breath support and how to produce a tone that is healthy and natural. I have a lot of experience performing in musical theater and music directing musicals and I specialize in coaching students for musical theater auditions and college auditions.

LESSON STYLE

I believe music is something that everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy and experience. Studying music and learning to sing or play an instrument can be very rewarding and I enjoy creating that opportunity for  people of ages and abilities. I try to create an environment that fosters learning and growth in a comfortable atmosphere.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
