I am a passionate and excited instructor who loves working with students of all ages and levels. I am currently in the dissertation phase of my doctoral degree at Yale and teach full time at the University of Bridgeport. I have played in several professional settings as a member of an orchestra, jazz band, concerto soloist, solo recitals and more! I specialize in classical percussion, but love teaching beginner guitar and piano as well. Read More

During my undergraduate education at Baylor University I began teaching drum set and percussion to middle and high school aged students. During my time at Rutgers I took on many students of all ages on drum set and piano and I have been teaching consistently ever since. For all my students my focus is on listening, reading, and experimentation. Listening to all kinds of music helps develop your musical ear and your intuition. Read More

In pretty much all my students' lessons I would include fun improvisation activities starting from the first lesson.I've found that pretty much everyone has the ability to improvise to a certain degree or another and that unlocking this activity early in training creates a sense of " familiarity" with music and the piano right away.I found that it's a wonderful way to explore the shapes and sounds of the piano through the experience of music first rather than the theoretical aspects of it. For beginning students, i'll typically start with Suzuki books. It's important for students to learn the left and right hand separately before putting everything together. Once a student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I'll introduce some simpler solo repertoire appropriate for his or her skill level. For advanced, I'll be happy to talk about more advanced musical techniques and theories. I play the piano as well, and I will be happy to accompany my students playing repertoire that needs an accompanist. Read More

My methods are non-traditional for some students and traditional for others. Each person learns differently and needs different methods to achieve their goals. I have used Essential Methods books, Jump Right In books, and others that I have found in my studies as a music teacher. I believe music is learned in many different ways, by ear, by reading, and by playing. We learn to talk by talking and being surrounded by those who talk. Read More

Lessons are structured: 1. Check the homework. 2. Work on mistakes and problems, then proceed to the new segment, if possible. 3. Detail and start practicing a new segment. Questions from the student and clarifications of them. 4. Write down the homework together with the student, focusing on goals, time and amount of practicing. Ask the student to repeat the homework out-loud. 5. Practical theory at the piano, practical exercises for fingers and technical skills from the day one. 6. Read More
