For beginning students who are children, I typically start with John Thompson's The Easiest Piano Course, Part1 and I always try to reach Part 4 with the student. After 6 mounts of having lessons with the same kids I am offering them to perform in front of there parents, friends and neighbors. As for method books for young students, it depends on their strengths and needs which I assess in the first lesson. From that assessment, I assign a methods book that best fits them.
