As a teacher I am not afraid to challenge students. They need to be challenged. They welcome challenges. The bigger the challenge, the greater the rewards in self-esteem and confidence are when they perform a difficult piece of music they thought they would never be able to play. Years of experience have exposed me to countless approaches when it comes to technical exercises. I believe in scales and arpeggios. All piano students need to be proficient in them, but that is only the starting point. Read More

I have taught piano lessons for over 30 years.. I started taking piano lessons myself when I was in third grade. Music has always been such an important part of my life that I want to share that gift with others - for them to love music as much as I do. My husband and I have pastored churches for over 30 years and I was always involved in the music ministry .My husband is a professor of preaching and worship at Asbury University at the Orlando Dunham Campus. Books I use for teaching Piano is the Piano Adventures series of books by Nancy and Randall Faber, which is a great lesson book and a good basic piano method for beginners through intermediate level students. For guitar I use the Hal Leonard Incredible Chord Finder and the Warren Nunes Jazz guitar Rhythm and Background Chords and the Solo Patterns book. Also For both Piano and Guitar I have accumulated many charts and Berklee School of Music pages to use as students start to progress. Read More

My teaching experience started in college as I taught group music classes in outreach programs and in internships. I now teach as young as preschool up to 8th grade on a regular basis. But, I also have experience teaching adults and high school students through directing adult church choirs and teaching private lessons prior to my current position. I have also taught students how to create music ALONE (improvising a solo, singing as a cantor, etc.), AND how to perform with a GROUP, as the two techniques differ! Read More

I have experience teaching all ages and skill levels. For every student I construct a personalized lesson plan that spans a three month interval with the student's goals as the main priority. From this the student is able achieve goals in multiple areas of their instrument and musicianship in small amounts of time. I will use books and material that corresponds with the students age and skill level on the instrument. Read More

Setting up goals to students at the beginning is a way to keep them motivated during lessons, by breaking down their goals into smaller pieces, It becomes more achievable for the students, I follow up a lesson plan depending on the students knowledge and level, everybody is different and for that I always incorporate lessons that goes with the kind of music they inspire yo play, I will bring composition activities, ear training activities and music theory activities too, there's so much to cover but these lessons are important because they will bring confidence and ability to make their interpretations when students want to learn a song, Read More

I began taking private lessons shortly after I joined the band program in middle school. I continued to take lessons all throughout high school and college. Shortly after graduating high school I was offered the position of drum instructor. During college I taught for several years as the drum instructor at Winter Haven High School. I also taught private lessons to a wide range of students during this time. Shortly after college I became the band director at McKeel Academy of Technology in Lakeland. Read More
