I began teaching about 5 years after I began playing guitar and piano. I started by teaching private lessons for local students my age and then slowly worked up to teaching in a music store for all ages and skill levels. I have had experience in many different environments from being a small private instructor traveling to students homes to working in private music studios and schools and also being on-staff teaching group classes at the collegiate level. My teaching experience dates back to my high school days, as I began to teach private lessons part time 10 years ago, and have consistently teaching students in my home studios for the last 8 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I have also found that a combination of classical and gospel music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

Music has been my passion from a very early age. I have learned through my years as an educator that sharing this passion with others is just as rewarding as personal experience or success. I greatly enjoy performing as much as I can myself but helping students achieve their own personal musical goals has become one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life. I look forward to meeting new students and learning about their passions and goals so that I can help them find the most rewarding path possible! Read More

Books I use for teaching Piano is the Piano Adventures series of books by Nancy and Randall Faber, which is a great lesson book and a good basic piano method for beginners through intermediate level students. For guitar I use the Hal Leonard Incredible Chord Finder and the Warren Nunes Jazz guitar Rhythm and Background Chords and the Solo Patterns book. Also For both Piano and Guitar I have accumulated many charts and Berklee School of Music pages to use as students start to progress. Read More
