BM, Florida Atlantic University, Piano
I'am an enthusiastic and energetic teacher who loves teaching students and transmitting my passion of music to them. In 2014, I graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Piano Performance. Performing for the school and in the community has been of the greatest experiences of my life as a pianist, and I've had the opportunity to play at Florida Atlantic University Music Hall and Melbourne City Auditorium, as well as touring China and Europe. While I played overseas, I demonstrated my excellent talents.
My teaching experience dates back to my high school days, as I began to teach private lessons part time 10 years ago, and have consistently teaching students in my home studios for the last 8 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I have also found that a combination of classical and gospel music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn.
For beginners who are very young, I usually begin with the notes of the piano keyboard. Once the pupil has advanced to the highest levels of classical and gospel music, I will introduce more challenging types of music for the student to recite. I will hold concerts for the students so they can have their skills tested. I will also give memory tests to the students. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level.
What is rewarding is to see my students developed a love for classical and gospel music! Therefore, it is important that each student advances at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting ambitious goals for my pupils at their lessons. Recognizing their strengths and weaknesses assists students in improving their musical skills, and makes them hungry for more knowledge. By trying to find out what motivates the student, I can successfully match my teaching to what they need and want for themselves.
