For voice students, I have my own curriculum to help them know how to use their voice in a good way. For piano beginning students I typically start with Piano Adventures method. For Flute students, I start with Rubank Elementary method. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire. I always begin with an interview to get a feel for the student’s level and interest. I start out with basics; musical alphabet, finding keys in the piano, finger numbers, listening. The method books I prefer are the Music Tree series, the Schaum series, Bastien notecards and i have recently began looking into Piano Pronto. I have a treasure trove of familiar classical pieces which I can transcribe to fit different levels. I also like the Hal Leonard Essential Elements series for their witty little tunes.
