I am a recent college graduate, so it hasn't been so long since I was taking lessons myself! That said, I've taught music in a wide variety of settings, from private lessons, to music summer camps, to instrumental demonstrations, to running college ensembles, and more. Because I'm still young, I remember what it was like not to understand certain topics within music, so I'm particularly good at figuring out where my students are getting stuck and helping them to look at it from a new point of view. I learned some chords on Guitar from my hippy uncle. After a few weeks, I started teaching him, and he is 60 years old. Point is, he would listen to songs on the radio like songs from The Beatles and then teach me them. I would hear the chords and realize that he might be playing a similar chord, but not the exact chord. I would play the chord for him and then he would be impressed. Read More

Students learn best at their own pace and in their own ways. Thats whats so great about private teaching. Private lessons afford the opportunity to customize to the students learning style, mood, abilities, and how much theyve practiced. Speaking of practicing, I believe that its my job to give students the skills and tools for their musical development in the most supportive environment and its the students job to meet me halfway. My gift is understanding concepts and explaining them in a way people can understand (and adapting it to their learning style). I try to combine the best aspects of the instruction I received on piano and guitar, with useful and practical concepts (and styles) I had to seek out on my own. Typically I work out of the Ernie Ball How To Play Guitar books (Phases 1 and 2), while also incorporating popular songs (including songs the student wants to learn, as soon as they are compatible with his/her skill level). I am a professional drummer/composer/educator living in NYC. I grew up in Dallas, Texas and began playing classical piano at age 4. I was given a drumset when I was 9 and switched to drums full time when I was 11. After high school, I attended University of North Texas to pursue a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Performance. In 2011, I moved to Brooklyn to perform full time. I later decided to go back to school and completed my Master of Arts degree in Music Performance at City College of New York. Read More

It has always been my joy when I see my students later on perform music that they love. Thus, I as a music teacher, would be more than willing to help my students sing and make music at their own level and eventually climbs up the musical ladder. To do this, setting standards and specific and realistic objectives are a must. During the process, regular assessments are done so that students know their accomplishments and feel more comfortable making music. Read More
