I also have over a decade of private voice teaching experience and two decades of formal music education. I believe it is essential that teachers keep their head in the game by continuing to put themselves out there as performers, so they never lose touch with the industry or the perspectives and demands of being a performer. I bring this professional knowledge of auditioning, performing, and the business of showbiz to benefit my students at whatever stage they are on in their musical journey. Read More

The first time I had the opportunity to mentor students was in my sophomore year of college in 2017. As a piano tutor at California Baptist University, I was helping beginner piano students to prepare for piano proficiency exams. I became a Teaching Assistant in the spring of 2021, where I assisted my piano professor in preparing for classes and lessons. I started teaching my own private students online and in person in the summer of 2021. Read More

For beginning string student's, I use Essential Elements for Strings and Schroeder method books. Once the student has grasped the basic fundamentals and note reading, I begin to introduce solo repertoire from the Suzuki String method. Along with technical studies and solo repertoire, the student will learn scales ranging from one to four octaves. For beginning piano student's, I use the Bastein Piano series. This method is complete with a method book, solo repertoire, theory studies and scales. Read More

What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
Set a consistent time of day and a specific amount of time. Remind yourself that practicing is a gift you are giving yourself. While also and act of discipline, it is a time for self-nurturing and, ultimately, great pleasure.
How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
Try it out once and see! If you’ve made it this far in seeking out lessons, chances are at least one lesson is worth a try.
When will I start to see results?
Thats depends on how much you practice :-) I make it my personal mission as a teacher to help my students learn how to practice during lesson time. Practicing should feel do-able, never daunting or mysterious. If the student isn’t growing with week to week lessons, regardless of how much outside time is put in, I am failing as their teacher.
Did you have a teacher that inspired you to go into music? How did they inspire you?
Absolutely. I have been incredibly lucky in my musical career. The number of inspiring teachers that have helped me get where I am today is too many to list.
Why did you choose your primary instrument?
Learning how to use your voice, for singjng or otherwise, is one of the most self-empowering himan endeavors. I wanted to invest my time in something that would help me grow as a person as well as, as an artist.
What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
My record label. I have worked very hard over the years to develop the necessary skill set for self-produced music, and I couldn’t be happier with what I have accomplished for myself in that respect.
Have any of your students won awards or been selected for special honors? How have they succeeded?
One of my current vocal students was awarded a scholarship at OCC.
What do you think is the hardest thing to master on your instrument?
The most difficult part of learning anything new and worth while is finding the discipline to develop consistency.
Do you use specific teaching methods or books? (Ex: Alfred, Bastion, Suzuki, Hal Leonard) Why did you choose them if you did?
I gravitate towards the Bastien series as I feel it takes a good pace for most students and is very thorough in covering music theory. For more academically-minded students, I prefer the Keith Snell series.
What does a normal practice session look like for you?
20-30 minutes of warming up and 30-40 minutes of technique in song.
If you have a Music Degree, what is it in (Performance, Education, Musicology, Theory, Composition, etc) and why did you choose that degree?
Performance
What is your dream piece to perform and why?
My own compositions. It is hard to put into words the fulfillment that comes with writing and sharing one’s own music, though it is without a doubt profoundly gratifying.
If you weren't a musician what do you think you'd be doing instead?
I couldn’t do anything else and be happy.
What is your favorite style/genre of music to play and why?
I have a deep-seated love for all genres of music, and find that the most memorable artists are not limited by the boundaries of genre. I gravitate towards classical music, rock and EDM.
If you play more than one instrument, how did you decide to start playing the second? (Or 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc)!
It was a natural progression to shift from piano to voice. It was the next, necessary step.
Does music run in your family? Tell us a little about your musical family members.
I have a very musical family, though to my knowledge I am the first musician.
When did you decide to become a professional musician? Was it a gradual decision or was there a defining moment for you?
I woke up one day and realized I was avoiding my greatest passion out of fear. That was the end of that.
