When receiving a student I first like to get to know the student by friending them. Asking question as to what their likes are and just getting to know them. For the beginner we start of with a Method book that fits their age and personaity and go from there. For the student that already has had past music experience I like to hear them play at first and see at what level they are to be able to place them on the correct method. Read More

I also work as a studio musician, contributing to film and TV scores as well pop albums such as Blonde Redheads 3 OClock and Avey Tares (of Animal Collective) newest release, Eucalyptus. Read More

Instruments: Piano Voice
I am educated in vocal pedagogy and teach the Richard Miller method of vocal health. I teach all ages and have experience teaching children of any age. I do encorage my voice and piano students Only if they express interest. What does happen often is that as a student absorbs the approach, it affects their life to some extent they naturally start slowing down and appreciating details in their lives too; they relax and become more aware of whats around them because their minds have been trained somewhat through practicing music that way. The tools and tricks of the trade: with me, you gain help understanding the musical alphabet forward and backward. You will spend your first few sessions actually writing more than doing, as you cannot drive a car unless we teach you how to DRIVE. Right!? We can use your materials, we can get some you think you'd enjoy, or we can use mine. I always start by assessing your level of performance, then adding to that until we achieve the level you so desire. Read More

I have been teaching individuals for the last 4-5 years on and off during my years in NY. The joy I get from seeing a student progress through practice and repetition is extremely gratifying. It is a humbling experience because it takes me back to my earlier days at a pianist, and where I am grown from. I have taught kids, all the way up to adults and have love the appreciation of being able to learn something that they had no idea how to do just the day before. Read More

What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
Practice sloooowwwllyyy. Don't rush. Your brain will learn way faster and you need less tim to get it right.
Focus on setting up a regular practice plan over a couple one-session plan.
Also the key to practising effectively is to find material that you WANT to work on. And if there is material that has to be done (like scales and sorts) try to find pieces that use the type of exercises creatively. Our brain plays tricks on us, we want to be shown that what we practice is not in vain and will be used.
When did you decide to become a professional musician? Was it a gradual decision or was there a defining moment for you?
I always had a strong drive in music. But I haven't really thought about picking it up as a career. When I was about 14 years old, I found an artist named "Hiromi", who changed my life forever. She is a Japanese Jazz pianist, with a very special melodic style. She inspired me so much, that I had to look up where she learned her craft. Seeing that she went to College at Berklee College of Music, it instantly became my goal to get accepted there. So my journey began. I haven't regretted that decision.
If you have a Music Degree, what is it in (Performance, Education, Musicology, Theory, Composition, etc) and why did you choose that degree?
I have a Bachelor of Music Degree in Jazz piano performance. I chose that degree because I was really interested in Jazz and the music that has been influenced by this style. So it was kind of natural for me to pick it. Also, I am very interested in Rnb, Soul Music which is heavily influenced by jazz.
Jazz is something beautiful. You hear it everywhere, but not many can pinpoint exactly what it is. It can sound very subtle and easy, or it can sound harsh and loud. Jazz is art. It conveys feelings you have in the moment. For me, it is the ultimate representation of music, the ultimate representation of oneself.
What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
Being able to travel the world through music.
Playing at the Emmy Awards 2019.
When will I start to see results?
You will absolutely learn something on the first day. Results come with continuous practice.
Did you have a teacher that inspired you to go into music? How did they inspire you?
Yes I did. I was lucky, that my mom saw my interest in music and immediately set up a lesson with my first teacher and mentor, up to this day. He had a feel for my musical taste, always presenting me with great music that I really wanted to learn to play. He showed me that hard work will pay off. Through him, I was introduced to my first keyboard competitions. And I won.
A good teacher will want to see their students thrive. He'll want to give it his/her all to push the student as far as they can.
Why did you choose your primary instrument?
It was love at first sight. I had a small toy keyboard at home on which I played melodies t the age of 3. Since then I always wanted to learn the instrument. I was mesmerised every time I heard someone play.
How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
If the child shows signs of musicality and interest in a particular instrument or music in general, it is never too early. A great teacher will see that and find the best suited material for the young one. It is also very important that the teacher can work with kids. Not everyone want or can do the job. You have to be playful and be able to convey your message in a kid friendly way. That alone is a challenging task not many can overcome.
Try to find the right teacher for the job, set up a meeting to see if they get along, the rest will show.
