We gradually increase the tempo over the next several weeks. Pieces like that will be rehearsed at the end of each lesson after working through a few passages in Alfreds book. At the beginning, I ask my adults what music theyre interested in learning. I think my approach to teaching piano is highly individualized. What motivates one student will not necessarily motivate another. Brief example: I currently have a student who likes to give me really "hard" high-fives after he has accomplished something. While he is adorable and he will work really hard to give me that high-five; this wouldn't work on many other students. Whatever will inspire my student to practice is what I will provide whether that is praise or stickers. Read More

At the beginning I will test the students on how much they know and what they like to play(soundtracks, gospel songs, songs out of the hymnal, classical etc). I start every lesson with positive and a little bit of chit chat to see how everything in their life is going.
