ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:
Bachelors of music education from the university of North Carolina – Greensboro
Overview:
I love to sing and have a passion for music. I have been performing since I could walk. In the fall of 2012, I receive my degree from UNCG in music education.  There I studied private voice for 3 years with Dr. Nancy Walker, former vice president of  National Association of Teachers of singing. I also had the opportunity to sing with the University Chorale, Men's Glee, and also UNCG's all-male a capella group, Spartones. My secondary instrument is piano, of which I have studied 15 years. I also have been apart of musical theater productions, my most recent was the role of Peter in Jesus Christ Superstar.  I have also been a part of the Gaston Choral Society, and have done vocals for praise and worship bands as well as jam bands.
EXPERIENCE
While attaining my degree I had practicums on the elementary, middle school and did my student teaching at Cedar Ridge high school. I have a year of teaching Chorus in the Guilford public school system. I also have musical theater experience. I have also been singing in church my whole life and have held an interim minister of music position at East Belmont Church of God. I have started my piano and voice studio and hold Lesson out of my father's church. I encourage my students to learn singing by sound and sensation and will help to improve their aural skills using solfege and muscle memory. I also encourage both piano students, and voice students to learn as much theory so that they can use it as a tool for their future musical career.
METHODS USED
Music is a very physical thing as well as a very abstract thing.  In my lessons, there will be kennistetic learning through movement as well as teaching through sensation. Using tools like Solfege it helps create muscle memory and tuning. Piano students will learn a wealth of theory knowledge, correct posture and fingering patterns. I will also encourage singing in my piano lessons to reaffirm the student's aural skills. The Alexander Technique is also something that my students will explore in our lessons.
LESSON STYLE
I want my students  to succeed in their studies with me. I will reflect and make accommodations so that my students will understand the concepts  I am teaching. I want the student to be engaged so we will explore their interest so that they can apply to the style of music that they want to perform. With that in mind, they will be able to read music and play by ear. Performance opportunities will be offered so that they can get used to that experience and deal with any stage fright they may have.
