Most of my professional experience has been with the Marine Corps Music Program for 15 years. I also grew up with private piano lessons, and continued band and show choir throughout high school.  Before my career with the Marine Corps Band, I also performed professionally around northern Ohio as a keyboardist and drummer in Top 40 and Rock bands for 3 years. My name is Shafer and I just moved from the East Coast this summer. I grew up in the Baltimore area and went attended Temple University in Philadelphia to obtain my Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education. I continued to live and teach in Title 1 schools for the next 2 years upon my graduation. I also have been a member of the Army Reserve since 2012. For each of my student's lessons, I have them play for me their pieces from the lesson book and their scales and arpeggios. At the end of the lesson, I take a few notes for the student so they know what to focus on or fix for their pieces, as well as keep track of which key they are working on for their scales. Every student is so different and I love working with each student to approach music in a unique way, whatever their learning style may be.
