I approach teaching music with patience and enthusiasm. I realize that there is an ebb and flow in every person's life and progress cannot be measured in an even intervals. Although I am pleased at a student progress, humanity is vast and always surprising me. Each of us are indeed unique and revered. Even as we learn we can enjoy all the leaps and bumps along the way. As with any teaching method, consistency is attendance breeds the best learning environment. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
I began teaching private voice lessons in high school to friends that wanted to work on building vocal technique. Upon beginning college, I took giving lessons more seriously and have consistently had a studio of a few students a semester for the past year and a half. I have studied voice pedagogy and have a deep understanding of how the vocal mechanism functions and how to ensure that students are singing healthily and strengthening their instruments. Read More

These were wonderful opportunities to teach peers and those who have been in the music education field much longer than the four of us. Although teaching large groups is exciting, nothing beats one-on-one lessons with a student. I have had and taught plenty of these lessons for several instruments including flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, french horn, euphonium, tuba, percussion, piano, guitar, and bass guitar. These lessons vary quite a bit in skill level, but they all offered challenges for both student and teacher. Read More

Again, music is a deeply personal subject and I want to encourage every student to find their unique voice and love for music. My goal is to develop strong all-around music skills along with learning the technique of the instrument they chose. Every student works at a different pace, and I plan accordingly. I like to set reachable, realistic goals for students each week to develop a strong sense of accomplishment and hunger to learn more the following week. Read More

I have experience teaching private students from beginner to advanced levels and with students of all ages. Teaching voice requires the knowledge to help shape and expand technique in a healthy and appropriate manner, which I have developed during my years at Eastman. I also encourage my students to explore all different genres and work to apply the technique across all styles. I myself have performed in many musical productions and operas. Read More

Studying music is a process of never-ending exploration. Therefore, sparking creativity and curiosity in children and adults alike is my number one priority. When a student develops a curious mindset about their instrument and the sounds they can get out of it, they will continue to investigate, experiment, and improve beyond the weekly lessons. That is when I know I have done my job! Moreover, setting the students up for success is key. Read More

I always try to adapt to the student's preferences as far as learning, playing, length of lesson, amount of information, all-around comfortability. Goals are important, but so is acknowledging a student's progress and accomplishment / improvement. I do not believe in negative reinforcement, I'm very patient. Piano is a very difficult instrument to learn, at first it can be extremely overwhelming (especially for a pre-teen) so it's super important to take it one step at a time and have the first couple lessons be laid-back and relaxed, with no pressure.
