I don't ever use a universal single method or approach to teach all. Some methods work better for some students but not others. That's why I use different method books with different students. *** Lesson Details *** Various teaching methods for different individuals for sight-reading, ear-training, techniques, interpretation, performance, artistry. *** Specialties *** All genres are taught, yet specialize in classical piano *** Adult Students/Age Sixteen or Older *** Students in this age group feel free to request the specific genre they want to study, unlike youngsters who are taught for every aspect and genre in music Read More

My teaching methods are relatively universal. With younger students, I focus more on learning to have fun while learning about their instrument at the same time. The more fun they're having, the more likely they are to stick to it. For adults, I keep this same philosophy in tact, but incorporate more technique, theory, and performance practice into our sessions in order to facilitate the learning curve. Once I know what my student enjoys about music, I tailor my lessons around that. Read More

I have an easy going personality and like to have fun so I try to make my lessons feel the same way. I'm not overly harsh or judgmental but instead I try to make each lesson a true learning experience where there's no pressure and the student is free to make mistakes (even encouraged to take risk and make mistakes) in pursuit of their passion of music. I believe when a student feels free to be themselves with their instrument it will result in a faster learning curve and more excitement to learn. Read More

Letting in failure creates room for failure. That's not to say mistakes are bad; quite the opposite! Mistakes are part of life, and a big part of learning anything new, especially a new skill. If there's a mistake that can be made in music, I've made it. As upset or frustrated as I may have been at the time, I know these personal failures are part of the process, and I use them as much as I can to instill hope and determination in my students. My teaching approach begins by meeting the students where they are in regards to musical capability. We soon push the boundaries of what they think they are capable of and allows them to apply the music theory in real time. A consistent schedule, whether it be during our schedule lesson or a follow up email packet, is the distinctive difference in my lesson plans. This practice regimen should continue long after our scheduled lessons and should be one of many vital keys to your child's future successes. Read More

In my voice lessons, I want to feel that the student is doing what they want to do, not just what I tell them. With this in mind, I work with the student to find songs or pieces that they want to try and sing. If it is an appropriate level of difficulty, we will work on it straight away. If it is a harder piece, We gradually work towards it, whilst simultaneously tackling other pieces with similar traits. Read More
