I had one student I saw weekly and though at first she was against the piano, I worked with her intensely on genres and styles that she enjoyed playing. It is also made clear that it is the student's responsibility to come into each lesson showing clear evidence that they've practiced the music. I'm stern about this. Each lesson plan I create varies from student to student. During the first lesson I have with a new student, I asses what they know, and what they would like to learn. I then teach the necessary building blocks in order to reach certain goals that the student and I set in a timely manner. I started composing electronic dance music and enrolled in courses to learn more while changing my college major. All of my students recieve education in music theory, rhythm, aural skills (voice/ear lessons), performance techniques, sight reading, and of course intrument technique.
