I'm a fun, energetic teacher who enjoys helping students find their inner passion for music. In 2012, I graduated from UNC - Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Mathematics. While studying composition under Dr. Allen Anderson, I premiered and recorded pieces for brass trio, wind quintet, percussion ensemble, and soprano with piano accompaniment. Studied Piano Pedagogy with Mary Elizabeth Land and has been teaching private piano lessons for 35 years.  As a member of the Florida Federation of Music Clubs, students have the opportunity be adjudicated by some of the top musicians in Florida at Festival.  Ninety-nine percent of students in Cyndi's studio earn Superior rating at Festival. I love teaching, and I do so with both encouragement and humor. I realize that not everyone can is able or willing to practice six hours a day, so I work with each student individually to find their pace. I am happy teaching both competitive students (I have had several students participate successfully in the ABRSM exams) and students who play purely for enjoyment. I teach harmony, rhythm, technique, melody, and basic sight reading by a two fold approach. First is to really feel into the music. This means learning to listen deeply with curiosity, intention, respect, and joy bringing the meaning of play into every aspect of learning. The second part is to begin with the basics of music theory by grounding fully into the fundamentals. Learning to work in forms that may seem like an alien language at first but when systematically approached with patience, dedication, and a spirit of playfulness and fun will open up and begin to reveal paths into learning and understanding that will greatly increase ones ability to engage in all musical forms. My teaching style is to get the student engaged during the lesson. I want the student to have fun and develop a true passion and understanding for music and the instrument. This is one of the reasons why the musical repertoire chosen is based on the students musical preferences rather than only playing generic tunes from the method book. It is my belief that if students can take the fundamentals they learn and apply it by playing music that is actually fun and enjoyable for them, it makes the experience of lessons more effective.
