Overview:

I'm a passionate instructor who cares deeply about a students education. In 2015, I graduated from West Johnston High School as drum captain in my band program. Since then I've performed in Alchemy Independent, an open class indoor percussion group. I've been with the group since 2017, and I have completed 2 seasons with them. Performing for an audience has been the best experiences of my life, and having the opportunity to play with all of these different organizations have been incredible and inspiring.

EXPERIENCE

My experience takes me straight out of high school. I have been a drum tech at West Johnston High School since Fall of 2015. Since then I've risen in the ranks and have taken a much bigger role. In between all of that, I've all taught at Wake Christian Academy as Percussion director for about a year. I've given a couple of students from that school private lessons and I've encouraged all of them to become better and more educated in the marching arts! My students are encouraged to participate in all percussive activities as well as any musical opportunity

METHODS USED

I essential teach intermediate students only, giving my current experience. I usually start with the basics and start to get to know where the student is at first. Then I would go ahead and just hit a drum book with basic rhythms and start to go through it and try to create exercises from it. I have my own philosophies too, being taught by world class marchers, from whom I have obtained those philosophies from. I have found that these methods have not only helped students get better, but they also help them learn and grow on their own.

LESSON STYLE

What's important to me is that by the end of the day, they have learned something new, regardless of what it is. I maintain the pace of the students and I will make sure that they're learning at a comfortable rate. Usually I'll make sure that the goal for the lesson is obtainable and we can achieve. Then during the lesson we work through to reach that goal, and depending on the progress will then determine the pace of the next lesson. If the student is uncomfortable with how they're learning, then I make it more comfortable, because in the end, music is all about fun and expressing yourself.
