A beginner private lesson will usually begin with wrist and finger exercises that establish technical foundation for exploring other rudiments. Secondly, teaching music notation. The four basic ways to divide the pulse and how they are notated. Third, 3 way co-ordination. Use of one foot and hands together. (Usually beginning and intermediate rock beats) Lastly, Application of all of the above to a musical situation. I ultimately hope that I can instill my students with a passion for music while ensuring they have fun! I stress the importance of regular practice in order for students to make weekly progress, and ultimately desire to help them develop their playing technique and theoretical knowledge while making room for them to explore their personal interests and enjoy playing their instrument. Since I have a broad array of musical interests, I am accordingly open to incorporating different aspects of musical study such as writing and recording into lessons as students progress, as I find the act of creating something of one's own to be an incredibly valuable part of making music. For all beginning students, I usually will take a lesson or two to assess where the student is at regarding music, depending on (if any) previous experience with music, e.g. piano lessons, etc. For trumpet students, I am not beholden to any one instructional method book. Jill has been teaching children and adults for 20 years. I studied voice and piano and performed at various venues. Now, I focus more on teaching piano and voice. We work on technique, performance, note reading, sight reading, and interpretation. We also work on music theory.
