I have taught drum instruction and Jazz ensemble at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music for 20 years. In addition I developed and implemented elementary music programs for K-5 thru 4th grade for schools in the NY vicinity. Upon moving to the Milwaukee area I have taught private and group instruction for the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, Elementary Music K-5 thru 8th grade at St. Josaphats school, Music Therapy and intergenerational activities at the Lutheran Home, private studio and now Musika.
Every student is unique. I have taught beginners up to working professionals. Some students request a certain plan of study and I can easily adapt to their needs. As I have mentioned earlier I have played in almost every kind of musical setting. Stylisticly it does not matter what a student may want to focus on. I can help and teach my students to reach their goals. For beginning students I try to establish a good foundation in reading, technique and musical application. I generally use books, recordings, videos, personal handouts and personal demonstration as well as piano accompaniment at my home studio.
A 1/2 hour or 45 min. lesson would consist of
Reading rhythmic notation for the snare or drum set.
Techigue and co-ordination excersizes.
Application to a musical situation. (accompaniment or Improvise)
Excellent. Patient and fun. Great pacing.
Hard to make an accurate review after just a couple lessons. Seems well prepared and versed in his instrument. Good social skills with young children. Allowed me to come in after coming in late for a lesson. Looking forward to future lessons with him.
