My teaching experience began when I was in grad school, where I taught a few students at a local high school. Since moving to the KC area eight years ago, I have been consistently teaching and gradually building my private studio, which now has over 20 students! I love working with young singers (specifically grades 8-12) and helping them find the potential in their voices.  I have encountered the full range of ability levels, from very experienced (had lessons before, sung multiple solos in school choir, had lead roles in musicals, etc.) to complete novice (no lessons, no choir experience).  My overall approach to lessons is the same, regardless of ability level: consistent improvement from week to week using vocal exercises, songs, and an exploration of breath and the physicality of singing. She had experiences to collaborate with choreographers and dancers. Additionally, Natalie has experiences in composing for drama; she was the music director and composer of “Hang out with HEART” in 2016, which was a drama organized by Hong Kong Children & Youth Services. Natalie is also active in participating in music festivals. She participated in the Thailand International Composition Festival (TICF) 2017 and her composition was performed in the Exchange of Midwest Collegiate Composers (EMCC) 2018. Read More

Hello, I'm Mackenzie B.. I'm currently a student at the University of Kansas for a Bachelors in Music Education. I am student teaching currently, which is my last step before receiving my degree. I currently work with Kerry Marsh for the KU Jazz Singers and enjoy singing both classical and jazz music. I also have two or three ukuleles and enjoy jamming with an acoustic guitar. I started taking piano lessons when I was eight years old, and continued lessons through high school and for a few semesters in college. I started singing in choir when I was 10 years old, and have been in one or more choirs ever since! I started teaching private lessons to a few students in my free time, and this early experience helped me develop effective teaching techniques. Since then, I have taught private lessons in the Kansas City area through my own studio and traveled to schools to teach lessons during the school day, as well as small cello classes outside of school hours. My goal as a private educator is to find what each of my students enjoys about learning music. When sequential learning is introduced, along with material that motivates, this encourages dedication and progression. I believe most students learn best when they feel they have input in some of the learning process. My students are also encouraged to participate in competitions and recitals.
